The Democratic Republic of Congo is engaged in several non-international armed conflicts on its territory against a number of non-state armed groups. A United Nations peacekeeping operation, the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), is supporting the Congolese armed forces (FARDC). Rwanda has intervened in DRC in support of M23. Furthermore, Kenya has deployed peacekeeping troops to DRC in order to fight in Goma.

Several non-international armed conflicts are taking place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo involving different non-state and international actors.

  • The Congolese armed forces (FARDC) are party to a number of non-international armed conflicts against, at least, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and Mai-Mai Yakutumba, the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda, FDLR), the Cooperative for Development of the Congo (Coopérative de développement économique du Congo, CODECO), and the M23.
  • The UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) is supporting the Congolese armed forces (FARDC) and is party to the conflicts.
  • Kenya has intervened in favour of DRC in its fight againts rebel groups. 
  • Rwanda is allegedly supporting M23 in North Kivu.
