Since 1974, Turkey has occupied the northern part of Cyprus.
Cyprus is involved in an armed conflict with Turkey because the latter has occupied the northern part of Cyprus since 1974. The occupied territory is also known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the de facto authority in the area.
